Shelf Drilling received its new jackup drilling rig today from Lamprell, the Shelf Chaopraya.

The rig will sail within the next few days and will be deployed by Shelf at its drilling location, offshore Thailand.

“With this delivery, the Lamprell Group has now completed and delivered a total of 16 Super 116E new build jackup drilling rigs,” the company informed in a statement.

The Shelf Chaoprava has been designed in compliance with the LeTourneau Super 116E (Enhanced) Class design and features high specification offshore drilling technology, as well as accommodation for up to 160 people.

“I am pleased to be marking the completion and delivery of this rig to Shelf. This is a busy period for the Group as this is the second major project that we have delivered in a matter of weeks,” Lamprell’s Chief Executive Officer, Jim Moffat, said.

“In light of this, our project team has performed very well to deliver this project to such high standards and as per the client’s requirements,” he added.

Lamprell Gets Contract for Johan Sverdrup

In the meantime, Lamprell announced it had won a new contract from Master Marine for the upgrade of the mobile operating unit Haven as an accommodation service vessel for use on Statoil’s Johan Sverdrup field, offshore Norway.

Under the US$90 million (£69.39 million) contract, Lamprell will provide the procurement, construction and installation of extended legs and new suction caissons.

The parts will be manufactured at Lamprell’s Hamriyah yard in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

After the transportation of the components to Norway, the company will assemble and install them on the Haven unit, which is expected to be concluded by the second quarter of 2018.

“While the market impacted the number of rig refurbishment and upgrade projects during 2016, this award demonstrates Lamprell’s continuing ability to compete in this sector which remains an area of strength for the Group,” the CEO stated.
